India Signs Deal to Supply BrahMos Missiles to Indonesia Worth $200 Million
India has agreed to supply Indonesia with two batteries of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, valued at approximately $200 million, as part of a series of defence agreements signed between the two countries on Tuesday. The information was provided by senior officials to The Indian Express.
A BrahMos battery typically consists of four launchers and 12 ready-to-fire missiles, along with associated equipment and vehicles. The exact composition may vary between land-based regiments and coastal defence batteries.
This deal is part of a broader defence partnership that also includes the supply of Astra air-to-air missile systems, major defence technology transfers, and enhanced maritime security cooperation.
With this agreement, India is set to export BrahMos missiles to three countries, including the Philippines and Vietnam, which have previously confirmed purchases. Additionally, India is in discussions with at least half a dozen other nations for potential BrahMos exports.
The BrahMos missile is a joint venture between India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia's NPO Mashinostroyeniya. It is a supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from land, sea, subsea, and air platforms.
