In Latur, Re-NEET Candidates Greeted with Applause as Faith in System Restored

As hundreds of anxious parents waited outside Rajarshi Shahu College in Latur on Sunday, spontaneous applause erupted when candidates of the Re-NEET exam began emerging from the examination centre. The re-examination, conducted after a paper leak controversy in the previous NEET UG exam, was seen by many as an effort to restore confidence in the medical entrance process.

Parents and students said that while the ordeal forced thousands of aspirants to prepare all over again, the re-test was necessary to ensure a fair playing field. They expressed hope that it would prevent inflated scores from pushing medical college cut-offs beyond the reach of deserving candidates.

Insha Inamdar, a candidate from Latur, said she was glad the re-test was held. “The difficulty level of this paper was slightly higher than that of the previous NEET examination. But it was not very difficult to solve. The Physics section was lengthy, just like last time. However, I am happy that I got enough time to complete it, unlike the first NEET examination held in May,” she said.

The paper leak controversy had shaken the trust of students and parents in the examination system. The re-examination, conducted under strict surveillance, was intended to address those concerns. Many candidates who had performed well in the first exam had to appear again, but they accepted the decision in the interest of fairness.

Local officials said the re-test was conducted smoothly in Latur, with adequate security measures in place. The centre witnessed a high turnout, and no untoward incidents were reported.

For many families, the re-examination symbolises a step towards rectifying the flaws in the system. As one parent put it, “We just want our children to get what they deserve — a fair chance.”
