Impersonators posing as police steal Rs 2 crore from Kolkata office

Kolkata: A group of men posing as police officers allegedly stole Rs 2 crore from a businessman's office in South Kolkata on Friday. The incident occurred at the Pratapaditya Road office of the businessman, who has not been named.

According to police, the impersonators arrived at the office claiming to be detectives investigating unaccounted cash. They flashed fake identity cards and confiscated mobile phones of the businessman and his employees, the police said.

The robbers then threatened the staff and interrogated them about cash kept on the premises. Learning that the money was in a vault, they forced employees to open it and fled with Rs 2 crore, according to police.

A police officer said that the modus operandi resembled the plot of the Bollywood film 'Special 26', but cautioned that investigations are ongoing. No arrests have been made so far.

Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. They are also probing how the impersonators obtained details about the cash.
