IMD Issues Heavy Rain Warning for Coastal Karnataka Until July 9
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rain in the three coastal districts of Karnataka from July 6 to 9. Sustained wind speeds of 50-60 kmph are expected at a few places during this period.
The Integrated Control Room for Emergency Response under the Union government has also forecast squally weather along and off the Gujarat-Karnataka coast from Monday to Friday, with wind speeds of 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph.
In Udupi district, seven houses were partially damaged due to rain in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Office of the Udupi Deputy Commissioner. The total loss was estimated at ₹1.70 lakh. The damaged houses were in Byndoor, Kaup, Brahmavar, and Kundapur taluks.
The district recorded 42.4 mm of rainfall during the period. The maximum rainfall of 71.7 mm was recorded in Hebri taluk, while the minimum of 4.7 mm was recorded in Kaup taluk.
According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, coastal Karnataka as a whole recorded 45 mm of rainfall during the period against the normal of 38 mm for the same period.
Jalsoor in Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada recorded 149.5 mm of rainfall, while Kambadakone in Byndoor taluk of Udupi district reported 124 mm during the period.
