Hyderabad Court Summons Allu Arjun Over Pushpa 2 Stampede Death
The Nampally Court in Hyderabad has issued summons to actor Allu Arjun, directing him to appear in person on Monday, June 22, in connection with the stampede at Sandhya Theatre during a special screening of Pushpa 2: The Rule. The incident, which occurred on December 4, 2024, led to the death of a woman and left her son injured.
The Chikkadpally Police have named Allu Arjun as Accused No. 11 in the case, with the theatre management listed as accused numbers 1 to 10. The court also summoned 19 other individuals named in the chargesheet. Legal proceedings are expected to advance after the accused appear before the judge.
Allu Arjun's legal team confirmed the development, stating, 'Nampally Court has issued summons to actor Allu Arjun to appear in person before the court on Monday for a hearing. We will give more details later about the matter.'
The stampede occurred when massive crowds gathered at RTC X Roads for a special show attended by the actor. Police said fans rushed toward the venue upon learning of his arrival, and officers resorted to a lathi charge to control the crowd. In the chaos, Revathi, a woman who had come with her son Sri Teja, fell and was trampled. She died from injuries, while her son sustained serious injuries. The family had reportedly attended the screening because the boy was a fan of Allu Arjun.
An investigation pointed to multiple failures. Police stated that the event proceeded without necessary permits, as authorities had not cleared the actor's appearance due to safety concerns. The chargesheet cited poor coordination between the theatre management, event organisers, and the actor's team, as well as the absence of separate entry and exit routes for VIP movement, which worsened the crowd crush. The National Human Rights Commission also criticised the police response as inadequate.
Allu Arjun was arrested on December 13, 2024, and remanded to judicial custody. The Telangana High Court granted him interim bail the same day. He later appeared for questioning on December 24, 2024, lasting nearly four hours. The Nampally Court granted regular bail in January 2025, requiring two sureties of Rs 50,000 each, cooperation with the investigation, and weekly reporting to the Chikkadpally Police Station.
Police filed a chargesheet naming 23 accused, including theatre owners, staff, the actor's manager, and Allu Arjun. Of those, 14 had been arrested earlier, while nine others who secured anticipatory bail were served notices. The latest summons to 19 accused marks the next step toward trial.
