Jana Nayagan Box Office: Vijay’s Film Nears Rs 250 Crore Worldwide, Director Addresses Mixed Reviews
Jana Nayagan, starring actor Vijay in his farewell film, continues its strong theatrical run despite a weekday slowdown. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the political thriller earned an estimated Rs 8 crore net in India on Tuesday, the sixth day since release. This marks a 24.9% drop from Monday’s collection of Rs 10.65 crore net, a decline typical after a robust opening weekend.
The film’s total India net collection now stands at Rs 143.40 crore, with India gross reaching Rs 167.57 crore. Worldwide, Jana Nayagan has grossed Rs 246.07 crore, nearing the Rs 250 crore mark. Occupancy on Tuesday was recorded at 25.73% overall, with evening and night shows seeing higher attendance at 31.15% and 30%, respectively.
Amid the film’s box office performance, director H Vinoth addressed the mixed critical response in an interview with NDTV. Vinoth stated that he has not read most reviews and stressed the need to distinguish between genuine feedback and paid reviews in an era of organised influencer marketing. He acknowledged that Jana Nayagan is a commercial entertainer and referred to a prior film, Bhagavanth Kesari, as a reference point for judgment. “If there is genuine feedback, I’ll definitely accept it,” he said, adding that he does not want to mentally stress over identifying honest journalism.
Besides Vijay, the film features Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Priyamani, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Prakash Raj in pivotal roles. As the film continues its run, industry observers note that its performance will depend on sustaining audience interest in the coming days.
