Heavy Rainfall Triggers Flood-Like Situation in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir; 25 Rescued

Heavy rainfall in the Mendhar sub-division of Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir, led to a flood-like situation on Friday, with water levels rising sharply in rivers, streams, and low-lying areas.

The continuous downpour disrupted normal life in several villages, as overflowing water entered houses and submerged agricultural fields.

Police teams responded swiftly to reports of stranded individuals, launching rescue operations that safely evacuated about 25 people from affected areas.

Sub District Magistrate (SDM) of Mendhar, Imran Rashid, confirmed that the intense rain created flood-like conditions across the sub-division. "About 25 people have been rescued so far. Several fields have been submerged and water has entered some houses. The administration is closely monitoring the situation and people have been advised to remain cautious," he said.

Authorities have intensified monitoring in vulnerable areas and kept relief and rescue teams on standby. Residents living near rivers and streams have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and to contact the control room in case of emergency.
