Heavy Rain Alert: IMD Forecasts Downpour in Five Telangana Districts on August 24
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall forecast for five districts in Telangana for Monday, August 24. According to the latest IMD bulletin, heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places in Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Karimnagar, Peddapalli and Jayashankar Bhupalpally districts.
In addition, thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are very likely at isolated places across a wider region, including Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy districts.
The weather office has also predicted a generally cloudy sky over Hyderabad and its surrounding areas for the next 24 hours. “Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds are very likely to occur in the city,” the bulletin stated. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Hyderabad are expected to be around 30 and 22 degrees Celsius respectively.
The IMD’s forecast is part of its routine weather monitoring for the region. During the southwest monsoon season, such alerts are common when moisture-laden winds interact with local atmospheric conditions, leading to intense rainfall over short durations. The affected districts lie in the northern and eastern parts of Telangana, which often receive significant monsoon showers.
Residents in the warned areas are advised to stay cautious, especially those living in low-lying regions prone to waterlogging. The IMD has urged people to follow local authorities’ instructions and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain spells. Farmers in these districts, who depend on monsoon rains for agricultural activities, have been advised to take necessary precautions to protect crops from potential waterlogging.
This forecast comes as several parts of southern India continue to experience active monsoon conditions. The IMD regularly issues district-wise alerts to help state governments prepare for weather-related emergencies. The Telangana State Disaster Management Authority is likely to monitor the situation and coordinate with district administrations if needed.
Weather experts note that heavy rainfall events, while disruptive, are essential for replenishing water reservoirs and groundwater levels in the region. However, sudden downpours can also lead to urban flooding in cities like Hyderabad if drainage systems are overwhelmed. The civic bodies are expected to keep pumping stations and emergency response teams on standby.
The IMD’s bulletin emphasises that the rainfall will be isolated in nature, meaning not all areas within the listed districts will necessarily experience heavy rain. Residents are advised to rely on official weather updates and avoid spreading unverified information about the intensity or timing of the rains.
As the state prepares for the wet spell, the public is encouraged to remain informed through official channels. The IMD’s next update is likely to provide more specific details about the movement of weather systems and any changes in intensity.
