Haryana Electoral Roll Revision: Over 33 Lakh Names Dropped, But Voters Can Re-register
Chandigarh: Haryana has completed the first phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of its electoral rolls, resulting in the removal of 33,84,568 electors’ names due to permanent relocation, death, absence, or duplicate entries, the state's Chief Electoral Officer announced on Thursday.
Chief Electoral Officer A. Sreenivas said that the draft electoral roll will be published on July 31 and made available on the official website and at designated centres across the state. He assured that no name would be deleted without an opportunity for hearing, and affected voters can submit claims and objections to get their names included again.
“The names of 33,84,568 electors could not be recorded during this phase. Of these, 13,75,278 had permanently shifted, 7,66,205 were deceased, 2,04,916 were already registered elsewhere, 9,36,646 were absent, and 1,01,523 did not submit their enumeration forms for other reasons,” Mr. Sreenivas said.
During the first phase, 20,629 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) distributed enumeration forms to over 2 crore electors, and more than 1 crore forms have been digitised. The process also involved 37,055 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by various political parties, including 19,051 from the BJP, 15,818 from the Congress, 1,476 from INLD, 54 from AAP, 314 from CPI, and 342 from JJP.
The draft roll publication starts the claims and objections period from July 31 to August 30. “If any elector’s name does not appear in the draft roll, he or she can submit Form 6 to get it included in the final roll,” Mr. Sreenivas said. He added that if an elector is aggrieved by the Electoral Registration Officer’s decision, an appeal can be filed before the District Magistrate within 15 days, and further appeal before the Chief Electoral Officer within 30 days.
The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on October 3. The revision is part of ongoing efforts to clean up the electoral rolls and ensure accuracy ahead of future elections.
