Gujarat Forest Minister Meets Family of Five-Year-Old Killed by Lioness; Vows Preventive Measures

State Forest and Environment Minister Arjun Modhwadia on Friday visited Chaturi village in Amreli district to meet the family of a five-year-old boy who was killed by a lioness earlier this week. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when the boy was walking with his grandfather. The minister assured the family that both short-term and long-term steps would be taken to prevent such incidents in future.

This marks at least the fourth reported case of a fatal wild animal attack in the Saurashtra region this month. Officials are reviewing protocols to mitigate human-wildlife conflict, particularly in areas bordering forest habitats. The minister did not disclose specific measures but stated that a comprehensive plan would be drawn up in consultation with wildlife experts and local communities.

The boy's death has sparked concern among villagers, who have called for better fencing and warning systems near forest edges. Forest department officials have increased patrols in the area and are monitoring lion movements.
