First batch of Kailash-Mansarovar pilgrims enters Tibet via Lipulekh Pass
The first group of pilgrims undertaking the Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra has entered Tibet from Uttarakhand after crossing the Lipulekh Pass at an altitude of 17,500 feet, officials confirmed on Friday.
According to officials of the Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN), the nodal agency for the yatra, the 48-member batch crossed the pass at 9.05 am from the Dharchula base camp.
Dhan Singh Bisht, officer-in-charge of the Dharchula camp, said the batch includes a doctor and four support staff members in addition to the pilgrims. The original group had 49 members, but one pilgrim returned from the Gunji camp due to personal reasons, he added.
The second batch, comprising 47 members, faced a slight delay after a landslide at Lakhanpur, beyond Dharchula. However, Bisht stated that the group is expected to reach Gunji by Friday evening. After an overnight halt, they will resume their journey on Saturday morning.
