Expired Food Found at Indore School After 110 Students Fall Ill

Approximately 110 children fell ill after consuming lunch at a private school in Indore, prompting authorities to launch an investigation and seal the kitchen. The incident occurred on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Jhalaria campus of Shishukunj International School.

According to officials, students from Classes 1 to 5 experienced symptoms of stomach ache and vomiting by evening. Many parents took their children to doctors, while some, being physicians themselves, treated them at home. No child was hospitalised as of the latest reports.

The district administration conducted an inspection on Monday, June 22, following a complaint from parents. During the inspection, 23 samples of food items and prepared meals were collected for laboratory testing. Officials found 10 packets of spices and two packets of namkeen that were past their expiry dates in the kitchen.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Deepak Chauhan stated, 'Around 110 children at the school began complaining of stomach pain and vomiting on Saturday evening. These symptoms persisted in many children the following day.' He added that the school kitchen was sealed until further orders, and a case is being prepared for various irregularities.

The school's vice-principal, Kamayani Chauhan, said children were served rajma, a vegetable, rice, roti, and ice cream on Saturday. She emphasised that more than 3,200 people eat at the school daily and that the institution ensures the highest quality of food. The school is also investigating the incident.
