Some filmed themselves being chased by authorities or detained, often with a tone of humor and defiance, which lowered the psychological barrier for others to join. The protest site itself became a place of community support, with volunteers distributing free food, water, and medical aid, and providing legal assistance — activities that were widely shared online.
While the movement insisted it was about the cause rather than any individual leader, the resignation appeared to validate their efforts. The protests gained further momentum after a July 20 march to Parliament turned violent, with allegations of excessive force by police. Online, participants crowdsourced safety tips and information, fostering a sense of solidarity.
The resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, who held the education portfolio since 2014, marks a significant development in Indian politics. The exact reason for his departure has not been officially stated, but it follows months of student unrest over issues including exam reforms and education policy.
