DU Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh Gets Historic Second Term After Rule Change

In a first for Delhi University (DU), Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh has been reappointed for a second term, following an amendment to the university's statutes that now allows such reappointments. The decision was confirmed by an official from the Ministry of Education, stating that the President of India had approved the reappointment.

Previously, the Delhi University Act prohibited a second term for the vice chancellor through reappointment. Singh initially assumed the role in 2021. The central government revived a nearly decade-old proposal in 2023 and approved an amendment to the statutes of DU, enabling the reappointment.

This move marks a significant shift in the university's governance, as Singh becomes the first vice chancellor to serve two consecutive terms. The reappointment process was carried out in accordance with the amended regulations, which now permit a second term under specific conditions.

Meanwhile, Delhi University has commenced Phase II of its undergraduate admission through the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) portal. Starting Friday, candidates can fill in their college and programme preferences ahead of the first seat allocation list scheduled for July 16. This process is part of the university's ongoing efforts to streamline admissions and provide a transparent system for students.

The reappointment of Vice Chancellor Singh is expected to bring continuity to the university's administrative and academic initiatives. Singh's tenure has seen various reforms, and his continued leadership will likely focus on further enhancing DU's educational standards and infrastructure.
