DMK seeks NEET ban in Parliament, demands probe into Jantar Mantar police action
NEW DELHI: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), led by MK Stalin, has demanded an immediate ban on the nationwide medical entrance examination NEET. On Monday, DMK MP TR Baalu submitted an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha during the ongoing Monsoon Session, calling for the scrapping of NEET.
The demand follows the May leak of the NEET UG question paper, which sparked widespread outrage and over a month of student protests. The protests eventually led to the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The DMK has also called for an inquiry into the alleged use of force by police against student demonstrators at New Delhi's Jantar Mantar.
On the same day as Pradhan's resignation, the central government appointed Pralhad Joshi as the new Union Education Minister. After Pradhan's resignation, student groups leading the agitation appealed to protesters to return home, stating that their primary demand had been met following a meeting with Union Ministers Jagat Prakash Nadda and Jitendra Singh.
