DMK Leaders Udhayanidhi, Stalin Slam Government: 'People Are Searching for Governance'
The political landscape in Tamil Nadu witnessed sharp exchanges on Monday as DMK leaders Udhayanidhi Stalin and party chief M.K. Stalin escalated their criticism of the state administration, asserting that the public is struggling to find effective governance. In a series of public statements, the leaders accused the current dispensation of failing to deliver on key promises, particularly in areas of welfare, infrastructure, and law and order.
Speaking at a party meeting in Chennai, Udhayanidhi Stalin, the party’s youth wing secretary, said, "People are searching for governance. They want a government that listens, that acts, and that ensures their basic needs are met. But what they are getting is excuses and inaction." He urged party workers to intensify outreach efforts to highlight the government's shortcomings.
M.K. Stalin, the DMK president, echoed similar sentiments, pointing to rising unemployment and inadequate public services. "We have raised these issues repeatedly in the assembly and outside. The people are suffering due to mismanagement and corruption. It is our duty to hold the government accountable," he said.
The remarks come amid growing discontent among opposition parties over the handling of the state's economy and recent floods. Political analysts view this as a strategic move by the DMK to consolidate its base ahead of upcoming local body elections. The ruling party, however, dismissed the allegations as baseless, accusing the DMK of playing politics at the cost of public interest.
A government spokesperson stated, "The state has made significant progress under the current leadership. These are just desperate attempts by a party that has lost touch with reality." The war of words is expected to intensify as both sides gear up for electoral battles.
The DMK has also called for a state-wide protest next week to press for its demands, including better flood relief and job creation. The situation underscores the heightened political tensions in Tamil Nadu, where governance remains a central theme of public discourse.
