Dimple Yadav Emerges as Key Leader During Jantar Mantar Protests

Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav has taken a prominent role in the ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar, marking a significant shift in her political career. Videos of her assisting injured protesters, confronting police, and caring for a fainted demonstrator have circulated widely, showcasing a more assertive public figure.

Yadav, 48, first contested elections in 2009 from Firozabad but lost, often seen as a quiet family member within the party. Her recent actions, however, have drawn praise from colleagues and observers. She led the party's march to Parliament and later to Jantar Mantar, a decision made during a pre-session meeting where she was chosen over her husband, Akhilesh Yadav.

During the protest, police detained SP MPs. While others advised her to stay in a police station cabin for safety, she chose to join the demonstrators, chanting slogans and attempting to interact with them. She personally distributed water to those injured in police action.

Yadav also visited protesting climate activist Sonam Wangchuk on July 16 and later criticized the government's handling of his detention, calling it an attack on democracy. She posted on social media, drawing parallels between the students' plight and her own children's experiences.

Party insiders note that Yadav has been increasingly focusing on education, employment, and women's issues, working closely with younger MPs. Her emerging leadership is seen as a calculated move by the SP to rejuvenate its image.
