Delhi's Sonia Vihar Water Plant Maintenance to Hit Supply in East, South Areas

The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has announced that water supply in several parts of East and South Delhi will be disrupted on Monday, July 6, and Tuesday, July 7, due to maintenance work at the Sonia Vihar Water Treatment Plant (WTP). The DJB issued an advisory on Saturday, urging residents in affected areas to store adequate water in advance.

In addition to the maintenance work, the DJB noted that construction of a boundary wall along the Taimoor Nagar drain is being carried out in compliance with a Delhi High Court ruling from May, which was prompted by concerns over waterlogging in the area.

The Sonia Vihar WTP, with a capacity of 635 million litres per day (MLD), is one of Delhi's largest water treatment facilities. It treats raw water drawn from the Upper Ganga Canal at Muradnagar and plays a key role in meeting the capital's daily water demand. The plant supplies drinking water to large parts of South, Central, and East Delhi.

Residents are advised to check the DJB's official list of affected areas and plan accordingly. The water supply is expected to return to normal after the maintenance work is completed.
