Delhi Police Dismisses Viral Claim of Passport Cancellation for Protesters
The Delhi Police on Thursday issued a clarification denying reports that passports of individuals involved in violence during the ongoing CJP protest would be cancelled.
The police labelled the claim as 'misleading' and stated that no such decision had been announced. In a social media post, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) urged citizens not to share or amplify misleading information and to rely only on official sources.
The clarification came in response to a post by a user named Vikram Pratap Singh, who had suggested that passports of those directly involved in the violence during the CJP protest might be revoked. Several media reports had also speculated on possible passport cancellations.
The Delhi Police's fact-check underscores the importance of verifying viral claims before sharing them. The protest, which has been ongoing, has seen incidents of violence, but the authorities have not indicated any such administrative action against participants.
