Delhi Monsoon Arrival Expected Around July 3-4, IMD Predicts Below Average Rainfall
Delhi continues to experience the final stages of pre-monsoon heat, with weather experts indicating that the southwest monsoon is likely to arrive in the national capital around July 3 or 4. Favorable conditions are developing across northern India, according to Mahesh Palawat, Vice President of Skymet Weather.
Palawat stated that the seasonal monsoon trough currently extends from Punjab to the north Bay of Bengal. The monsoon has already advanced over many parts of Uttar Pradesh, most of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, and additional areas of Madhya Pradesh.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the monthly average rainfall over the country as a whole during July 2026 is most likely to be below normal. This prediction comes as part of the IMD's updated forecast for the 2026 southwest monsoon season, which was first issued on April 13 and revised on May 29.
The IMD's forecast covers the entire monsoon season from June to September. While the arrival of monsoon in Delhi is anticipated in early July, the overall rainfall for the month is expected to be below normal, which could have implications for agriculture and water resources in the region.
Residents in Delhi-NCR have been enduring hot and humid conditions, and the expected monsoon onset will bring relief from the heat. However, the below-normal rainfall prediction may require careful water management in the coming weeks.
