Delhi govt greenlights Rs 658 crore road upgrade across 270 km
The Delhi government on Wednesday approved an expenditure of Rs 657.99 crore to strengthen and repair 270 km of roads across the national capital, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said. The project is designed to improve durability, road safety, and construction quality.
The approvals were granted during a meeting of the Expenditure Finance Committee chaired by Gupta. The work will cover 270.63 km of roads in East, North, and South Delhi, and is targeted for completion by October, according to an official.
Of the total outlay, Rs 147.08 crore has been allocated for strengthening 58.292 km of roads in the East Maintenance Zone. Another Rs 247.31 crore will be spent on 104.42 km in the North Maintenance Zone, while Rs 263.61 crore has been approved for 107.92 km in the South Maintenance Zone, officials said.
The project aims to address potholes, surface deterioration, and other defects on key arterial roads. Authorities expect the upgraded roads to reduce commute times and improve safety for motorists and pedestrians.
