Delhi CNG station explosion kills one, injures five in Tikri Kalan

At least one person died and five others were injured after a gas cylinder aboard a truck exploded while it was being refilled at a CNG station in outer Delhi's Tikri Kalan area on Wednesday (August 18, 2026), police said.

The Delhi Fire Service received an alert about the incident at 3:37 p.m., following which six fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Fire service personnel reached the location and brought the situation under control, officials said.

According to a fire service officer, six people standing nearby sustained injuries in the explosion. They were immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where they are presently undergoing treatment. The condition of the injured is stated to be stable, but the hospital has not yet released an official update.

The deceased has not been identified publicly, as the authorities are in the process of notifying the family. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the explosion.

“The incident triggered panic in the area. Fire service personnel carried out necessary precautionary measures and ensured that the situation was brought under control,” the officer said. The area was cordoned off to allow safety inspections and to prevent any further risk.

Explosions involving gas cylinders at CNG stations are rare, but safety protocols require regular checks and strict adherence to handling procedures. The Delhi Fire Service and district administration have assured that all necessary steps are being taken.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials have appealed to the public not to spread unverified information about the incident. Further details regarding the identity of the deceased and the condition of the injured are awaited.
