Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Meets Grieving Families, Hands ₹10 Lakh Ex Gratia
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday met the families of those who lost their lives in the Saidulajab building collapse and the Hauz Rani hotel fire. She handed over ex gratia payments of ₹10 lakh to each family.
The building collapse on May 30 killed six people, including five medical students and a canteen owner. The hotel fire on June 3 claimed 23 lives, among them several foreign nationals.
Speaking after meeting the families at the Secretariat, Ms. Gupta said, 'No assistance can make up for the loss of a loved one, but in this hour of grief, the Delhi government stands firmly with you like a family.'
The Chief Minister stated that the government is taking concrete steps to prevent such tragedies. She assured that those responsible for the incidents will not be spared. To address the rising number of fire incidents, the government is enhancing the capabilities of the Delhi Fire Services by procuring smaller firefighting vehicles that can access narrow lanes and densely populated areas more quickly.
