Delhi Building Collapse in Rohini: Two Rescued, Rescue Operations Continue
A three-storey under-construction house collapsed in Delhi's Rohini Sector 16 near an MCD school on Wednesday evening (July 8, 2026), trapping several individuals beneath the debris. Rescue teams managed to pull out two people alive as emergency services rushed to the site.
The collapse occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m. amid heavy rainfall across parts of Delhi. While weather conditions may have been a factor, authorities have not yet confirmed a link. The Delhi Fire Service dispatched four rescue teams, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) along with local police joined the search and rescue operation.
Locals were the first responders, using bare hands, shovels, and tools from nearby sites to remove broken bricks, concrete slabs, and twisted iron rods. Residents formed human chains to shift debris and brought shovels from surrounding houses and construction sites. Panicked neighbours rushed to the spot after hearing a loud crash and cries for help.
Specialised rescue personnel later employed hydraulic cutters and other equipment to carefully lift heavy concrete slabs without causing further harm to those trapped. In a video released by the fire service, a rescuer is seen lying flat on the rubble, peering through a narrow gap, and reassuring a trapped person: “Aap chinta mat kariye, aapko bacha lenge sir” (Do not worry, we will rescue you).
The area around the collapsed structure has been cordoned off to facilitate rescue work. Operations are ongoing, with teams cautiously removing debris piece by piece to avoid triggering further collapses. The exact number of people still trapped remains unclear.
