Court Orders Fresh Probe Into ₹27.9 Crore Case Against Ex-Minister Vaithilingam
A designated court for corruption cases has permitted the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) to conduct further investigation into the ₹27.9 crore corruption case involving former Minister R. Vaithilingam. The court directed that the probe be completed 'as expeditiously as possible' and that a report be submitted within three months.
The order came on a petition filed by the DVAC seeking permission to investigate the case further. Vaithilingam, who is currently a DMK legislator, served as Minister for Housing and Urban Development in the AIADMK government from 2011 to 2016.
The DVAC registered a case against him on September 19, 2024, for alleged offences committed during his tenure as minister. In January this year, Vaithilingam resigned as an AIADMK MLA and joined the DMK, which was in power at the time. A month later, the DVAC filed a closure report in the case. The court has now allowed further investigation, setting aside the closure report.
The case pertains to alleged irregularities in housing projects during his tenure. The DVAC has been directed to investigate all aspects thoroughly and submit its findings within the stipulated timeframe.
