Cloudburst Triggers Flash Floods and Mudslides in J&K’s Doda, No Casualties Reported
Torrential rains triggered flash floods and mudslides in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir’s Chenab Valley on Tuesday morning, damaging houses, shops, and vehicles, officials said.
The flash floods and mudslides hit Thathri town following a cloudburst. Scores of houses, shops, and vehicles were submerged or buried under debris. Civil infrastructure also suffered damage from boulders and mud. Several vehicles were washed away, and traffic on the Doda-Kishtwar National Highway was disrupted at multiple locations.
Despite the extensive damage, no casualties or injuries have been reported, officials confirmed. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reviewed the situation and directed the district administration to provide immediate relief to affected families and expedite restoration work. Speaking to Doda’s Deputy Commissioner, Sinha assessed the damage and instructed clearance of National Highway 244.
“Several houses and shops have suffered damage. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported. I have directed the DC to ensure immediate relief and assistance to the affected families and expedite restoration work, including the clearance of NH-244,” Sinha said.
