Chandigarh Court Rejects Bail for Hyderabad Man in PM Modi Video Case
Chandigarh: A court in Chandigarh has dismissed the second regular bail application of Hassan Mohiduddin Siddiqui, a 44-year-old man from Hyderabad, arrested for allegedly circulating a fake and misleading video related to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media.
The case stems from a First Information Report (FIR) registered on April 19 at the Sector 26 police station in Chandigarh under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act. The police alleged that the video was aimed at creating public unrest and damaging the reputation of the Prime Minister.
In his bail plea, Siddiqui argued that he had been falsely implicated and had been in custody for over two and a half months. He also pointed out that the investigation was complete and a chargesheet had been filed. However, the court, in its order, stated: “Hence, keeping in view these facts and circumstances and the gravity of the offences and seriousness of the allegations, no ground is made out to release the accused on bail.”
The court's decision underscores the judicial approach to cases involving alleged misinformation targeting high-profile figures. Legal experts note that while bail is a right, courts often weigh the nature of the offence and potential impact on public order before granting relief.
Siddiqui remains in judicial custody pending further proceedings. The case has drawn attention to the increasing scrutiny of social media content and the legal consequences for circulating unverified information.
