Centre approves Rs 1,647 crore interest-free loan for Delhi infrastructure, triple of last year

The central government has approved all 28 infrastructure projects proposed by the Delhi government under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme. The total cost of these projects is Rs 1,647 crore, approximately three times the amount sanctioned last year, according to an official statement on Sunday.

The projects include the Delhi Metro, Barapullah Elevated Corridor, Karawal Nagar Flyover, electric vehicle charging stations at Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) depots, and various road infrastructure works. The approval was granted on July 9.

In addition to the loan, the Centre has sanctioned an extra Rs 756 crore as an incentive, recognising Delhi's efforts to increase capital expenditure from its own resources, officials said.

The SASCI scheme, managed by the Ministry of Finance, provides long-term, 50-year interest-free loans to states and union territories to boost capital spending. It also offers incentives tied to reforms and capital investment by states.
