Canada envoy invites Telangana CM for visit as trade ties strengthen
Canada's High Commissioner to India, Chris Cooter, met Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in Hyderabad on Wednesday and extended an invitation for a Chief Minister-led delegation to visit Canada.
The meeting focused on strengthening trade, investment, and innovation partnerships between Canada and Telangana. Discussions highlighted opportunities for collaboration in major infrastructure and urban development projects, including the Musi River Development Project, Hyderabad Metro Rail expansion, and the proposed Future City initiative.
High Commissioner Cooter noted recent developments that reflect the growing economic footprint between Canada and Telangana. These include Firan Technology Group's decision to establish a manufacturing facility in Hyderabad, CIBC's opening of a Global Capability Centre (GCC), and a strategic partnership between CPP Investments and Hyderabad-based CtrlS Datacenters, with CPP committing up to 1 billion Canadian dollars.
Chief Minister Reddy outlined Telangana's successes in sectors such as IT, life sciences, defence, and aerospace. He emphasized Hyderabad's leading role in attracting Global Capability Centres of Fortune-500 companies. The Chief Minister also stressed the state government's commitment to rejuvenating the Musi River as part of a larger strategy to create an alternate economy along the riverfront. He sought Canada's support for the state's solarisation efforts and plans for a green economy.
Elaborating on his vision to transform Telangana into a global knowledge hub, the Chief Minister mentioned that several top global universities are considering setting up campuses in Hyderabad. He proposed the idea of a group of Canadian universities establishing a multi-university campus in Hyderabad.
The Chief Minister welcomed growing Canadian engagement and invited Canadian companies, investors, and institutions to participate in the second edition of Telangana's Global Investors Summit, scheduled for December, as a platform for exploring new business opportunities.
High Commissioner Cooter praised Telangana's forward-looking vision and approach to job creation and development, noting the state's massive talent pool. He offered Canada's full support for the state government's initiatives and invited the Chief Minister to visit Canada to explore further opportunities. He added that a Canadian trade delegation would visit Telangana in the coming months for extensive discussions on energy, urbanisation, defence, and aerospace.
The meeting was also attended by Advisor and Ex-Officio Special Chief Secretary to the CM K. Ramakrishna Rao, Invest Telangana CEO B. Ajith Reddy, TGIIC MD Shashanka, ITE&C Joint Secretary Anudeep Durishetty, and Director of Industries Nikhil Chakravarthy.
