Cab Driver Uses ChatGPT to Learn English for Daughter, Inspires Online Users
A routine cab ride in Delhi turned into a memorable interaction for a Hyderabad-based consultant, highlighting how artificial intelligence (AI) tools are reaching everyday users across India. The passenger, Tushar Jejani, was traveling to the airport at 5 am when he noticed his cab driver speaking English on the phone, describing his morning routine and the ride's location.
Initially, Jejani felt uneasy, wondering why the driver was sharing these details. Sensing the passenger's discomfort, the driver initiated a conversation to reassure him. As they chatted over the next ten minutes, Jejani spoke in Hindi while the driver responded in English. Intrigued by this, Jejani asked who the driver had been speaking to. The driver revealed that he had been chatting with ChatGPT, an AI-powered conversational tool, to practise and improve his English.
When asked why, the driver explained, "I have a newborn daughter. I am learning for her. When she grows up, I will be able to teach her." The sincerity of the response struck Jejani, who later shared the experience on X (formerly Twitter). "On that almost empty road at 5 am, it hit me. He was not just learning English. He was quietly trying to build a different starting line for his daughter in life," Jejani wrote.
The post quickly gained traction, with many social media users praising the driver's initiative.
