Bodies of Six Tamil Nadu Tourists Killed in Vietnam Boat Tragedy Return Home
The mortal remains of six tourists from Tamil Nadu, who died after a boat capsized near Vietnam's Phu Quoc Island on July 11, 2026, arrived at the Coimbatore International Airport on Tuesday, July 14. The bodies were received by Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) Maruthipriya and handed over to their families after completion of required formalities.
The deceased have been identified as Senthil Kumar Jayavel of Dharmapuri, Muruga Prabhu Arumugam of Dindigul, Sridhar Sundararajan of Salem, and Shaikh Abdullah, Balaji, and Alagurajan of Tiruchi. They were among 15 Indian tourists who lost their lives in the accident, with 10 of them hailing from Tamil Nadu.
The bodies were transported by road to their respective native districts for last rites. Local authorities have expressed condolences and assured support to the bereaved families. The Vietnamese authorities are investigating the cause of the boat capsizing, with initial reports suggesting adverse weather conditions may have contributed to the tragedy.
The Indian Embassy in Vietnam has been coordinating with local officials and providing assistance to the affected families. The government has also announced possible ex gratia compensation for the victims' families, though details are yet to be finalized.
