Bihar Universities Ordered to Clear Degree Backlog in Mission Mode by July 1
The Lok Bhavan, the secretariat of the Governor of Bihar, has issued a directive to all state-run universities to clear the backlog of pending degrees on a mission mode. The order, dated Saturday, requires vice-chancellors to distribute degrees to students who have successfully completed their courses and submit a status report by July 1.
Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor, Dipak Kumar Singh, highlighted in the letter that the delay in issuing degrees is a serious concern. It adversely affects students' opportunities for higher education, employment, and overall career progression, the letter stated.
“It has been observed that a substantial number of grievances received at Lok Bhavan pertain to the non-issuance and pendency of degrees of students who have successfully completed their courses,” the letter read. It directed all universities to undertake a special drive to clear the backlog in a mission-mode manner.
This move aims to address the widespread problem of delayed degree distribution, which has long plagued Bihar's higher education system. Students often wait months or even years to receive their diplomas, hampering their ability to pursue further studies or secure jobs.
The directive applies to all state-run universities in Bihar. The universities are expected to prioritize the verification and printing of degrees, and ensure that they are handed over to eligible graduates promptly.
