Bihar launches doorstep land registration for seniors aged 75 and above
The Bihar government on Saturday (July 11, 2026) launched a digital initiative aimed at easing the process of land and property registration for senior citizens. Under the new system, citizens aged 75 years or older can register land, plots, or flats without leaving their homes.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary inaugurated the service at the Hajipur registration office in Vaishali district. It has been introduced under the ‘Sabka Samman-Jeevan Aasaan’ (Ease of Living) programme, which is part of the ‘Saat Nischay-3’ (Seven Resolves-3) initiative of the state government.
The move spares elderly citizens the need to visit registration offices, stand in long queues, or undertake difficult journeys. They can now complete the registration process at home at their convenience.
During the event, Mr. Choudhary, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav, flagged off mobile registration unit vehicles to provide home registration facilities. A live demonstration of the registration process for 83-year-old Awadhesh Kumar—the first recipient of the service—was shown via video conferencing.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Choudhary said that the paperless registration system was initially intended for citizens above 80 years, but the age limit has now been lowered to 75 years and above. “The government’s objective is to enhance the ease of living for common citizens and make government services simpler, more transparent, and time-bound,” he said.
Mr. Choudhary expressed confidence that, through the government’s efforts and the blessings of the elderly, Bihar would scale new heights of development. He also directed that all necessary basic amenities be provided for people visiting registration offices and called the paperless registration system a historic step towards a ‘Digital Bihar’.
To avail of the home-based registration service, senior citizens must first book a slot online through the department’s official website (https://enibandhan.bihar.gov.in/). Once a slot is allotted, a mobile registration unit will visit the applicant’s home on the scheduled date and time. The process includes document verification, biometric verification, and immediate registration.
Currently, the facility has been launched across 10 registration offices in Patna and Hajipur, with plans to expand it to the entire state soon. The e-registration software automates fee calculation, e-challans, e-stamps, and Aadhaar-based e-signatures.
Several residents praised the initiative. Ratib Kumar of Vaishali district called it a historic step. Asharfi Singh of Hajipur said it would greatly facilitate the registration process. Sarvanandan Kumar of Sheikhpura termed it a boon for the elderly, noting that long journeys and standing in queues become difficult with age. Shivkumar Singh of Patna added that travel can adversely affect health, and home-based registration provides immense relief.
