Bengaluru Triple Murder: Parents’ Opposition to Daughter’s Relationship Probed as Motive
Three members of a family were found killed at their apartment in Bengaluru on Monday, with police suspecting the couple's elder daughter and her live-in partner of carrying out the murders.
The deceased have been identified as Somasundar (55), his wife Muthulakshmi (48), and their younger daughter Supriya (20). All three were stabbed, police said.
The prime suspects are the couple's elder daughter, Shwetha, and her boyfriend Kenneth. The two are reportedly in a live-in relationship and are currently absconding, according to the police.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Shwetha's parents had opposed her relationship with Kenneth. Police are probing whether this opposition was a motive for the murders.
The incident took place at Sai Green Apartment in Dhamanik Layout, Seegehalli, under the KR Puram police station limits.
Investigators are examining whether the killings were pre-planned and if Shwetha and Kenneth acted together. KR Puram police inspected the scene. The bodies have been sent to East Point Hospital for post-mortem examination. A manhunt has been launched to trace the accused, and further investigation is underway.
In a related development, police are also looking into a debt angle. Sources said Shwetha had allegedly accumulated debts of nearly Rs 30 lakh, which her parents frequently questioned her about, leading to family tensions.
According to police, the sequence of events is being pieced together from evidence. It is believed that Shwetha and Kenneth visited the family home on Monday, first encountering Muthulakshmi alone. An argument is suspected to have escalated, leading to the attack on Muthulakshmi. The accused allegedly cleaned bloodstains before her father and sister returned. When Supriya entered, Shwetha is alleged to have restrained her while Kenneth attacked her. Somasundar was then attacked; despite severe injuries, he managed to run out and seek help, but later died.
Police have not confirmed the exact motive and caution that the investigation is ongoing. One person has been arrested in connection with the case, but details have not been disclosed.
