Bengaluru Police Summon Creche Staff at Capgemini Over Alleged Child Mistreatment

The HAL police in Bengaluru have issued notices to five staff members of the Little Buds Day Care creche, located inside the Capgemini campus, summoning them for questioning regarding allegations of physical abuse and cruelty towards children of company employees.

An FIR was registered against the creche workers on June 29, following a complaint filed by Tilakesh Kumar. The complaint alleges that on June 25, staff at the creche, including the in-charge and caregivers, subjected children to physical and mental abuse.

According to the complaint, children who cried or created a disturbance were beaten, dragged, handled roughly, confined inside a washroom, doused with water, and physically assaulted. The alleged abuse came to light after videos showing children crying were circulated on WhatsApp.

Police have collected video clips reportedly showing the abuse and sent them to the Forensic Science Laboratory for verification. The questioning will help ascertain the exact role of each staff member, based on which necessary legal action will be taken, a senior police officer said.

The FIR names caregivers Manjula, Vijayalakshmi, Bhavani, Sindhu, and Bindu. They have been booked under Section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.

On July 1, Capgemini issued a statement announcing full co-operation with investigators and the temporary closure of the on-campus day care facility.
