AWS picks Hyderabad, Berlin, Sao Paulo for Builder Loft expansion
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the expansion of its AWS Builder Loft programme to three new global cities: Hyderabad in India, Berlin in Germany, and Sao Paulo in Brazil. These locations will join San Francisco, where the first permanent Builder Loft was launched in July 2025, as dedicated community spaces for developers, students, and technology professionals.
The Builder Loft is designed to serve as a permanent hub offering free workshops, networking events, pitch nights, content creation spaces, and collaborative co-working areas. The initiative aims to provide a physical destination where builders can access technical expertise, exchange ideas, and work on real-world solutions. AWS said the expansion reflects the growing importance of these cities as talent and innovation hubs in their respective regions.
Hyderabad was chosen for its rapidly expanding developer ecosystem and its position as a major technology centre in India. According to AWS, the Hyderabad Builder Loft will give Indian developers a dedicated space to upskill on artificial intelligence, explore cloud-native architecture, and connect with peers who are building the next generation of applications for India and the world. The company emphasised that the space will serve as a collaborative environment where developers can learn, build, and share knowledge.
David Nalley, director of Developer Experience at AWS, said, “Twenty years ago, AWS launched its first services and it was the builder community that believed in us from the very beginning. These spaces are our way of investing back in that community, giving developers a place to come together, build real things, and learn from each other.”
The move comes as AI continues to transform industries and reshape software development. AWS noted that the Builder Loft will help developers stay updated with emerging technologies, access technical guidance, and accelerate innovation. By establishing these spaces in Hyderabad, Berlin, and Sao Paulo, AWS is tapping into diverse regional tech communities and reinforcing its commitment to supporting developers beyond its cloud infrastructure services.
For Hyderabad, the arrival of the Builder Loft is expected to further strengthen its position as a leading IT hub in India. The city already hosts numerous global technology companies and has a deep pool of engineering talent. Local developers will now have a dedicated venue to engage with AWS experts, participate in skill-building sessions, and collaborate on projects that could have both domestic and international impact.
Similarly, Berlin and Sao Paulo are recognised for their vibrant startup scenes and growing developer populations. By choosing these three cities, AWS aims to create a global network of developer hubs that foster learning and collaboration across different time zones and cultures.
The announcement underscores AWS's long-term strategy of investing in developer communities as part of its broader ecosystem. The Builder Loft programme is one of several initiatives by the company to support developers, alongside certification programmes, open-source contributions, and cloud training resources. As the programme expands, more developers will gain access to free, hands-on opportunities to enhance their skills and network with peers.
