Assam MLAs Pledge Salary for Flood Relief; Raijor Dal Members Do Not Join

Assam has been experiencing severe floods, causing widespread damage and displacement. In response, all legislators of the Assam Legislative Assembly, except those of the Raijor Dal, announced on Tuesday (July 28, 2026) that they would donate one month's salary for the relief and rehabilitation of flood victims.

Speaker Ranjeet Kumar Dass said he and Deputy Speaker Habbey Teron would donate one month's salary. 'Besides us, all assembly secretariat staff will donate one day's salary for the relief and rehabilitation of the victims,' he announced.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pijush Hazarika welcomed the gesture and said all BJP MLAs would also donate one month's salary. The Trinamool Congress' lone MLA in the state, Sherman Ali Ahmed, followed suit, announcing his donation.

Leader of the Opposition Wajed Ali Choudhury said the Congress party had already provided flood relief in recent days and its MLAs would donate one month's salary. AIUDF MLA Mazibur Rahman stated, 'Our party president Badruddin Ajmal has donated far more than that from AIUDF. But still, as other members have decided, we will also give our salaries of one month.'

AGP MLA Prithiraj Rava announced that all party members would follow suit, as did BPF MLA Paniram Brahma. The House Speaker thanked everyone for their support.

However, the Raijor Dal made no announcement. MLA Mehboob Muktar was present in the House but did not speak on the matter.
