Army intensifies search for two LeT militants in Shopian, operations enter second day

The search operation for two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district entered its second day on Tuesday, with security forces sealing escape routes and deploying additional troops in the area.

According to official sources, the operation was launched on Monday following intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the Sugan area of Shopian. The security forces, including the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, have cordoned off the region, conducting door-to-door searches.

A senior Army officer said that the forces are taking all precautions to avoid collateral damage and ensure the safety of civilians. 'The operation is ongoing, and we are using all available resources to neutralise the threat while minimising risk to local residents,' the officer said.

The identity of the two LeT militants is yet to be confirmed. However, security agencies believe they may be involved in recent attacks in the region. The area remains tense, with helicopter surveillance and night-vision equipment being used to track the militants.

Local authorities have advised residents to stay indoors as the search continues. Schools and shops in the vicinity have remained closed since Monday.

The operation underscores the persistent security challenges in the Kashmir Valley, where militant groups continue to operate despite sustained counter-insurgency efforts. The Jammu and Kashmir Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
