AP's 'P4' Strategy: Mobilising Mentors and Corporates to Lift 12 Lakh Families Out of Poverty
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday reaffirmed the state government's commitment to its flagship 'P4' initiative, describing it as a long-term mission to eradicate poverty through sustained mentoring, economic empowerment, and community participation, rather than conventional welfare measures.
Speaking at an interactive session with P4 'Margadarsies' (mentors) and 'Bangaru Kutumbams' (beneficiaries) in Kuppam, Mr. Naidu said the programme is designed to assist economically vulnerable families in becoming financially viable and eventually enable them to support others in need.
Representatives from Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL), Adani Group, and TVS Motor—corporations that have adopted beneficiary families—participated in the event.
The Chief Minister stated that the government has identified nearly 12 lakh 'Bangaru Kutumbams' across the state, with around 1.10 lakh mentors voluntarily coming forward to guide and support them. He called on the 'Bangaru Mitras' to closely monitor the progress of beneficiary households and ensure that interventions translate into tangible improvements in their quality of life.
Mr. Naidu explained that the P4 initiative follows the 'MBK 10-20' model, encouraging the top 10% of financially secure citizens to assist the bottom 20% living in poverty. The objective extends beyond financial assistance to creating sustainable livelihoods, enhancing skills, and improving living standards.
In Kuppam, close to 9,000 'Bangaru Kutumbams' have been entrusted to the Adani Group, TVS Motors, and MEIL for sustained support. The Chief Minister urged beneficiary families to value the guidance offered by their mentors and work towards self-reliance.
Highlighting the efficacy of inclusive development, Mr. Naidu said economic growth must be accompanied by rising incomes, reduced inequalities, and better living conditions.
