Apple TV+ has released a new series titled 'Widow's Bay', a 10-episode horror-comedy set on a fictional island of the same name. The show stars Mathew Rhys as Tom Loftis, the town's mayor, who is determined to transform the island into a tourist destination despite its dark history and reputation for being haunted.

The island's past includes incidents of cannibalism, murders, and numerous supernatural occurrences. Locals believe the island is cursed, and the series explores various hauntings, including a boogeyman, a masked clown ghost, a shapeshifter, and an undead man who has lived for over 300 years. The sea surrounding the island is said to be impassable for those born there.

The show balances horror with workplace comedy, focusing on the local town office and Tom's personal life as a single father. His assistant Patricia (Kate O'Flynn) seeks acceptance from her peers, while elder Wyck (Stephen Root) views Tom as an ineffective leader. The narrative unfolds like a mystery, with each episode revealing new clues about the island's secrets and the death of Tom's wife.

'Widow's Bay' has been noted for its ability to maintain tension without undercutting fear with jokes, and for its structured storytelling reminiscent of earlier series like 'Lost'. The show is available for streaming on Apple TV+.

The model, already adopted by stars like Allu Arjun and Ranveer Singh, allocates up to 60% of revenue to talent, leaving producers to recoup costs from the remainder. Proponents argue it aligns incentives, rewarding success while mitigating losses.
