Annual Kheer Bhawani Yatra Begins: Over 8,500 Pilgrims Depart Jammu
Over 8,500 pilgrims, predominantly Kashmiri Pandits, departed from Jammu on Saturday for the annual Kheer Bhawani Mela. The yatra, which culminates on Monday, is held at five Ragnya Bhagwati shrines across Kashmir, with the most prominent at Tulmulla in Ganderbal, Manzgam and Devsar in Kulgam, Logripora in Anantnag, and Tikker in Kupwara.
A fleet of 214 buses carrying the pilgrims was flagged off by BJP's Nagrota MLA Devyani Rana. The yatra marks Jyeshtha Ashtami, a significant date in the Hindu calendar. Officials noted a significant rise in pilgrim registrations this year, attributing it to the peaceful atmosphere, strengthened security, and extensive arrangements in place.
Relief and rehabilitation organisation officials have been deployed at key pilgrimage destinations well in advance to oversee arrangements and coordinate among departments. The Kheer Bhawani Mela is a centuries-old tradition, deeply rooted in the cultural and religious fabric of the Kashmir Valley, and holds special significance for the Kashmiri Pandit community.
