Andhra Minister Lokesh urges teachers to lead educational transformation
Andhra Pradesh Human Resource Development Minister Nara Lokesh has called on teachers to act as change agents and lead efforts to transform the state's education system. Speaking to 37 outstanding government school teachers at his residence in Undavalli on Friday, he emphasised the importance of learning from global best practices.
The teachers had recently returned from a study tour in Singapore, where they observed advanced educational methods. They briefed the minister on how these practices could be adapted to Andhra Pradesh's schools.
Mr. Lokesh stated that meaningful social change can only be achieved through education. He noted that he has been studying top education models worldwide. The Education Department, he said, will be key to realising Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's 'Swarna Andhra' vision, particularly in implementing technologies like quantum computing and artificial intelligence.
The minister urged the teachers to become change-makers and replicate the Singapore practices at the school, cluster, and mandal levels, while also mentoring their peers. He acknowledged that transforming the system will take time, but pointed out a positive trend: over 1 lakh students have shifted from private to government schools this year.
Mr. Lokesh highlighted the Teacher Transfer Act, which ensures transparent transfers and promotions based on seniority, without external influence. He expressed confidence in the teachers' abilities and encouraged them to showcase the 'A.P. Model of Education' to the world.
The meeting was attended by Thameem Ansaria, Commissioner of School Education, and M. Venkata Krishna Reddy, Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Educational Research and Training (APSCERT), among others.
