Alpha Earns Rs 37 Crore Globally in Two Days, Mixed Reviews for Action Thriller

The spy action thriller Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, has collected over Rs 37 crore worldwide in its first two days, according to early estimates. On its second day, the film earned Rs 11.25 crore in India across 6,882 shows, a 21.6% increase from the opening day's Rs 9.25 crore.

Directed by Shiv Rawail, the film also features Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol in key roles. Despite a strong start at the box office—outperforming trade predictions of Rs 6-7 crore on day one—Alpha has received mixed reviews from critics and audiences. While the performances and action sequences have been praised, the screenplay and storytelling have drawn criticism.

This is Alia Bhatt's third consecutive action-oriented project after Heart of Stone and Jigra. Some viewers have noted a sense of repetition in the genre for the actor. Her last major commercial success was Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023), which grossed around Rs 357 crore worldwide and won the National Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

For Sharvari, Alpha marks a significant milestone in her growing career. It is only her sixth feature film and is shaping up to be her second box office success. She was last seen in Main Vaapas Aaunga, which has collected over Rs 80 crore so far.

With Sunday collections still to be recorded, industry observers are watching to see if Alpha can sustain its momentum over the weekend.

January and February were largely disappointing, but experimental films like 'Masthishka Maranam' and 'Pennum Porattum' found niche success. The trend raises questions about the declining power of star names in the industry.
