Alleged Gang Threat and Gunfire in Kasaragod Shop Area Triggers Police Probe

Panic gripped Bhattiyapadav in Miyapadavu, under the Manjeswaram police station limits in Kasaragod district, on Monday afternoon after a four-member gang allegedly threatened a local shop owner and fired a gunshot into the air. The incident took place around 2 p.m., prompting residents to alert the police.

The gang reportedly confronted Shuhaib Moin Sheikh, who runs a general store near Bhattiyapadav, and threatened him before one of the members fired a shot into the air. The group then fled the scene in a car, according to initial reports. No one was injured in the incident, the police said.

The police have identified two of the suspects as Rahim and Khader Madankall, both residents of Miyapadavu. The two named individuals are said to have been involved in several criminal cases in the past, the police added. The identity of the other two members of the gang is yet to be confirmed.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that Shuhaib had a dispute with a person from Machampady a few days ago over a family-related issue. The police suspect that Monday's incident was an extension of that dispute and that the gang had arrived to intimidate him. However, the police have not made any arrests so far and are examining all aspects of the case.

The gunshot created panic among local residents and shop owners in the area. The Manjeswaram police reached the spot soon after receiving the information and began collecting evidence, including statements from eyewitnesses. The police are also checking CCTV footage from nearby establishments to trace the movement of the suspects.

According to the police, the suspects are believed to have fled towards Karnataka after the incident. The vehicle used by the gang is being traced, and the police have sought details from the transport department. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act, the police confirmed.

This incident highlights the need for prompt action in cases involving the use of firearms in public places. The police have assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted to bring the accused to justice. Further updates are expected as the probe progresses.
