AIADMK Student Wing Secretary Quits After Speech Cut Short at Party Meeting

Chennai: Singai G. Ramachandran, the secretary of the AIADMK students' wing, resigned from the party on Thursday evening, hours after participating in a party meeting. He announced his decision on social media and was not available for comment.

The meeting, chaired by party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami at the party headquarters, saw the absence of several senior leaders, including former ministers S.P. Velumani and Natham R. Viswanathan. Both are deputy general secretaries of the party.

According to informed sources, Mr. Ramachandran was allowed to speak during the meeting but was asked to conclude his speech when he repeated his points. A participant said: 'He kept repeating his contentions. He was requested to allow time for others to speak.' Sources indicated that some functionaries felt they were above others, hinting at internal friction.

Mr. Palaniswami held meetings with district unit functionaries from Coimbatore, Dindigul, and Chennai. During the session involving four Coimbatore units, Mr. Ramachandran spoke. The participant added that while functionaries can express opinions, only the general secretary has the authority to decide on party matters.

The resignation and the absence of prominent leaders underscore ongoing internal dynamics within the AIADMK. Other senior leaders, including A. Tamil Magan Hussain, K.P. Munusamy, and Dindigul C. Sreenivasan, attended the meetings.
