Samajwadi Party to Release 'Jan-Man Manifesto' on Constitution Day Ahead of 2027 UP Polls
The Samajwadi Party will release its election manifesto for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls on November 26, 2026, a date observed as Constitution Day, the party has announced. The document, titled "Jan-Man Manifesto", is expected to set out the party's commitments on social justice and welfare.
Constitution Day, or Samvidhan Divas, is observed on November 26 to mark the day in 1949 when the Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution of India. The Constitution came into force on January 26, 1950.
Party president Akhilesh Yadav announced the release of the proposed document, saying it will highlight outreach to backward classes, Dalits and minority communities. According to the party, the manifesto will place particular emphasis on sections it describes as socially and economically marginalised.
"The manifesto will focus upon the socially and economically marginalised section of society, which includes women, backward classes, Scheduled Castes, minorities and other neglected sections," said Alok Ranjan, a former Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh who has worked closely with the party on policy issues. "We will also include separate documents for women and youth, and a manifesto on law and order. It will include our commitment to various groups of people."
The party said the main manifesto will be followed in the coming weeks by region-specific and district-centric documents, allowing it to address local concerns in different parts of the State.
Asked about the timing of the release, party spokesperson Nasser Salim said the occasion was chosen deliberately. "On Constitution Day, we reaffirm our faith in the Republic and in the sovereign will of the people. This manifesto is not merely a political document but a public covenant inspired by the ideals of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity. It reflects our commitment to the constitutional empowerment of the PDA and every citizen of India," he said.
PDA is the Samajwadi Party's shorthand for "Pichhda, Dalit, Alpasankhyak" — backward classes, Dalits and minorities — a grouping the party has consistently projected as its core support base in recent elections.
A second party spokesperson, Ram Pratap Singh, said the party "firmly believes in the sanctity of the Indian Constitution, which defines India as a Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic Republic". He added that the party has "always stood for the fundamental rights and duties as enshrined in the Constitution".
Political analysts see significance in the choice of date. "The date is significant because Dr B.R. Ambedkar, who is regarded as an icon of the Scheduled Caste community, was a leading figure in the drafting of the Constitution," said Asad Rizvi, a Lucknow-based political analyst. "We should read it as outreach towards Dalits, who are numerically strong. The selection of the date will give further weight to the social justice plank of the Samajwadi Party."
The announcement marks an early start to the party's campaign messaging for the 2027 Assembly elections, in which the Samajwadi Party is seeking to present itself as the principal challenger in the State. Manifestos in Uttar Pradesh are closely watched because the State is India's most populous and sends the largest number of members to the Lok Sabha.
The party has not yet released the full contents of the document. Details of the specific promises, including on employment, law and order, and welfare schemes, are expected to become public at the release event on November 26.
