ACB Nabs Panchayat Secretary Red-Handed in ₹25,000 Bribe Case in Khammam
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a panchayat secretary in Khammam district on Saturday for accepting a bribe of ₹25,000 to process a building permission and allot a house number.
The accused, Thammisetty Suresh, served as the Panchayat Secretary of Bhanapuram Gram Panchayat in Mudigonda mandal. He was apprehended by the ACB’s Khammam range near the Rythu Vedika at Mudigonda.
According to the ACB, the official demanded ₹25,000 from a complainant to grant building permission and allot a house number for a one-room sheet-roofed house being constructed on a five-gunta plot in Bhanapuram village. The tainted cash was recovered from his possession.
The accused was arrested and produced before the Special Court for SPE and ACB cases in Warangal. The identity of the complainant has been withheld for security reasons. The case is under investigation.
The ACB has been actively pursuing corruption cases in the state, particularly involving public officials who misuse their positions for personal gain. This arrest highlights the bureau's commitment to tackling bribery at the grassroots level, where citizens often face extortion for routine services.
