Aadhaar App Now Lets Users Update Email ID, Free Service for Six Months

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new feature on the Aadhaar app that allows residents to add or update their email ID directly, eliminating the need to visit an Aadhaar enrolment centre. The service will be free of charge for six months starting July 1, 2025.

According to UIDAI, more than 2.5 lakh individuals updated their email address within the first two days of the feature's launch. The authority stated that linking an email ID with Aadhaar will enable users to receive real-time alerts whenever an authentication request is made using their Aadhaar number. This, UIDAI said, enhances transparency and provides an additional layer of security by allowing Aadhaar holders to monitor the usage of their identity details.

The move is part of UIDAI's ongoing efforts to improve the accessibility and security of Aadhaar services. Previously, updating an email ID required a visit to an Aadhaar centre, which could be time-consuming. The new facility is available through the official Aadhaar app, which can be downloaded from major app stores.

Residents are advised to ensure that their email ID is correctly entered to receive notifications. The free period is intended to encourage widespread adoption and streamline communication between UIDAI and Aadhaar holders.
