20-Year Jail Term for UP Man Who Raped Teen Niece; Fine to Victim as Compensation
A court in Uttar Pradesh has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and raping his 16-year-old niece. The convict, identified as Akash, a resident of Kunwargaon in Budaun, was also fined Rs 1.70 lakh, which the court ordered to be paid to the victim as compensation.
Additional District Judge Neeraj Kumar Garg pronounced the verdict after finding Akash guilty under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to Special Public Prosecutor Virendra Verma, the victim's father filed a complaint on October 26, 2024, stating that his minor daughter had gone missing from their house during the night. The police registered a case and later rescued the minor from Delhi.
In her statement, the victim said her maternal uncle, Akash, had lured her to Delhi on the night of October 26, 2024. He took a room on rent in Delhi and raped her, resulting in pregnancy. The two had been living together since then, the prosecutor said.
The court, after examining witnesses and evidence, convicted Akash and awarded the 20-year jail term. The fine amount is to be given to the victim as compensation.
