17 Delhi Metro Stations Shut for Third Day as Protest Continues Near Jantar Mantar
Seventeen metro stations in central Delhi remained closed for the third consecutive day on Friday (July 24, 2026) due to security concerns arising from an ongoing protest near Jantar Mantar, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said.
The DMRC announced that the affected stations would remain closed from 7:30 a.m. until further notice. The closure has caused significant inconvenience to office-goers, students, and other commuters who rely on the metro for daily travel.
The stations that remain closed include Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhambha Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, Shivaji Stadium, and Jhandewalan. However, interchange facilities continue to be available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat stations.
The ongoing protest, which has drawn large numbers of demonstrators, led authorities to restrict metro access in the central areas as a precautionary measure. The identity and demands of the protest organisers have not been officially confirmed, but reports indicate a peaceful assembly.
On Wednesday (July 22, 2026), the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) filed a plea in the apex court, arguing that the closure of multiple metro stations has made it difficult for lawyers and litigants to reach the court. The plea sought the court's intervention to restore normal metro services while ensuring security.
